School Council is a representative body that meets monthly to discuss a wide variety of issues of interest and concern to the entire McAuliffe Regional CPS community. It is a focal point where the constituencies of the school community convene, the better to understand and improve all aspects of McAuliffe Regional CPS life - academic, behavioral, physical, cultural.
The core Council members are the parent representatives, one for each grade level, elected annually by our students' parents. Their primary duty is to receive questions and concerns of families, bring them to the Council for discussion, and report back on the results. The code of the Council is to maintain the anonymity of families, so they can be assured that individual names will not be included in the meeting minutes or broadcast to the community at large.
The Principal always represents the administration on the Council, and the same faculty representatives attend all meetings. Other staff and faculty are invited to address specific topics.
Meetings are open to the entire McAuliffe Regional CPS community and the public. Protocol is for Council members to share and discuss their information, after which comment from others in attendance is invited. Thus, the forum for discussion is small and orderly, and much is achieved in a short time.
Participants are encouraged to speak freely and honestly. Council members are expected to be responsible and judicious when sharing information outside the meetings. Minutes, kept by a Council member, are produced with an eye to the sensitivity of some material aired, and are sent only to Council members. A summary of items discussed and actions taken is distributed to the entire McAuliffe Regional CPS community in the Friday folder as soon after the meetings as possible.
The School Council plays a serious, significant role for McAuliffe Regional CPS. Members represent our families and staff in the development and implementation of each year's School Improvement Plan. Performance objectives for our administration flow from this Plan, and the school's degree of success in achieving its goals is assessed annually by the Mass. Dept. of Education (DOE). Council members are asked to meet and speak freely -- with staff from the DOE Charter School office who make an annual site visit, usually in March. The visit and resulting report are part of the ongoing process that leads to charter renewal.
If you have, at any time, concerns or questions of a grade-wide or school-wide nature, they may be addressed to any of the grade representatives:
