Macro Invertebrates are very important to the health of watersheds. They help keep our watersheds clean by feeding on organic matter and on each other. Many macro invertebrates are very familiar to most people. They range from flies and snails to leeches and crayfish.
Macro invertebrates can be divided into four different groups: collectors, shredders, grazers and predators. Grazers, shredders, and collectors all feed directly on organic matter and help to filter it. Predators feed on other macro invertebrates.
Many macro invertebrates will eventually be preyed on by bigger fish in the sea. They are simply just another important link in the circle of life.
