Welcome

Sara Bowen doing a Dissolved Oxygen Test.

Welcome to our watershed expedition page. In this website we will be explaining many aspects of watersheds, including macro-invertebrates, pollution, the water cycle, and many other topics.

We learned about watersheds by going on various field works, and learning in the classroom. We went on a canoe trip on the Charles River and took water samples at Beaver Dam brook and the Charles. We also studied macro-invertebrates from the Beaver Dam brook. A few speakers have also come and talked to us about watersheds and pollution. We have had a lot of fun, and learned a lot over the course of this expedition.

We had a number of goals that we worked towards reaching during this expedition. Our top priority was safety, but we left room for having fun on the 3 trips. While on the trips, we aimed to learn about the health of the area that we were testing and what caused it to be the way it was. We did this through pH tests, DO tests, and took other measurements to thoroughly test the locations that we were at.

We found 5 different sites to go to and we put water into 1 liter bottles. After we were done with all five sites, we put chemicals into sample bottles and checked the water. We were checking for dissolved oxygen, PH, air temperature, water temperature, the time of day it was, the last time we had precipitation, what we heard, what we saw, and many more.
